Editors’ Rating: excellent
The Expression Photo XP-8600 Small-in-One ($249.99) is Epson’s latest consumer-grade photo all-in-one printer. It’s mostly similar in capabilities to the Editors’ Choice Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 Small-in-One reviewed here in early 2019. Designed for family and home office use, the six-ink XP-8600 prints exceptionally well, especially photos, but unlike the XP-7100, it has only a flatbed scanner, lacking an automatic document feeder (ADF) for copying and scanning multipage documents. That makes the new Epson less business-friendly and more inclined toward photo output than the XP-7100 and several other consumer AIOs, despite its high-quality text printing.
