Canon’s imageFormula DR-C230 Office Document Scanner ($495) is an entry-level sheet-fed desktop document scanner appropriate for use in home-office, small-office, and workgroup environments. Like several of its competitors, including the Editors’ Choice Brother ADS-2700W Wireless High-Speed Desktop Document Scanner and the Alaris E1035 Scanner, the DR-C230 scans at a good clip—for a starter machine, that is—and its optical character recognition (OCR) accuracy is respectable. It also comes with a well-rounded collection of productivity software for digitizing your everyday accumulation of business documents, business cards, and more. However, unlike these (and a few other) competitors, this Canon connects solely to a single PC via USB, preventing you from using it with multiple PCs or connecting it to your handheld mobile devices. For some document-management and other applications, though, tethering your scanner to a solitary computer is all you need. In these instances, the economical DR-C230 steps up and performs nicely.
