Good print quality. Relatively fast. Low running costs. Lots of ink in the box.
ADF is limited to manual duplexing. Does not scan or copy tabloid-size documents.
- BOTTOM LINE
The Brother MFC-J5845DW prints good-looking documents up to tabloid-size quickly and inexpensively, making it a great all-in-one printer for small offices that can live with a manual-duplexing ADF.

Editors’ Rating: excellent
The Brother MFC-J5845DW ($249.99) is intended for small and micro offices with midrange print and copy requirements. One of the company’s Business Smart all-in-one printers, it churns out good-looking wide-format documents up to tabloid size at a good clip and for very reasonable running costs. It also costs $100 less than its Editors’ Choice sibling, the MFC-J6945DW. That savings means some sacrifices, though, including the omission of an auto-duplexing automatic document feeder (ADF) and more robust paper capacity, as well as the ability to scan, copy, and fax (not just print) tabloid-size pages. Not all small work groups require those features, though, making the MFC-J5845DW a solid, less expensive alternative.
