- PROS
Highly competitive running costs. Solid overall output quality. Single-pass duplexing ADF. Borderless printing.
- CONS
No Ethernet connectivity. No flash memory support. Minor banding in some graphics.
- BOTTOM LINE
The Brother MFC-J805DW is an entry-level office-oriented inkjet AIO that prints well overall and costs a lot less to use than many of its competitors.

Editors’ Rating: excellent
he Brother MFC-J805DW ($159.99) is an entry-level multifunction (print, scan, copy, and fax) inkjet printer designed for small and home-based offices with moderate print and copy volumes. It prints well overall and is affordable to use, and it has a handy single-pass auto-duplexing automatic document feeder (ADF) for unassisted two-sided copying and scanning. However, it lacks some of the convenience features of the Editors’ Choice Canon Pixma TR8520, including Ethernet support. But it’s still a solid choice for an entry-level small-office AIO.

I’m puzzled by the single-pass duplexing ADF you describe in this review. I can’t see any references to that feature in the product manual or in other reviews of this printer. Can you confirm that this feature is available on this printer?
Thanks for pointing this out, Ted. Apparently, I am in error here. While the MFC-J805DW does support auto-duplex printing, the ADF is manual duplexing. Sorry about the confusion. I have contacted the editors to make this correction.
